This adventure was made possible by the convergence, encouragement (likely against their better judgment) and labors-of-love of many. Longtime puzzle-hunt-organizer Dave, consulted on a Monday night (mostly hypothetically), made it seem not completely crazy to organize a hunt by the weekend and agreed to advise. Various friends agreed to help with puzzles; but only when Mira (whose longtime Mathcamp experience gave her a trove of puzzle knowledge, and puzzles) stepped up to become the puzzle czar did the impossible become possible. (Not-so-famous early words: “It shouldn’t be too much work.”) All-nighters are apparently still possible at our age!

See Metapro-puzzles for specific puzzle credits.

Helpers during the puzzling day:

  • Madeleine (the first “MP” of the day), Richard and family, for breakfast, first puzzle reveal (and assist!) and transport
  • Jessica, for Berkeley clue-stashing and dog-walking puzzle delivery
  • Sand & Rae, who gave us our lunchtime lifts (“Just happened to be passing by—need a lift somewhere?“); Sand also dug deep into childhood to make Puzzle 3
  • Adam, who beamed in with lemon, chameleon and our next location
  • Harriet & Chen Chen, who delivered Puzzle 5 (along with Jax’s bonus challenge puzzle); plus courtesy rush pick-up/delivery of a certain down-to-the-wire photobook project
  • Family Alvidrez, who delivered (and created) Puzzle 6, and later brought dinner for everyone at the end of our long day
  • Suma, our Laguna Beach connection and cafe clue-giver
  • Trevor, our designer boutique connoisseur and director to the SkyPad
  • Paul & Ambika, who provided a much-needed boost of energy (and hilarity) with their unforgettable 3-part “Boss“ challenge

And a call-out to Richard (for early puzzle consultation), Omer (for unwittingly planting the idea of a symmetric and puzzle-hunt proposal), Craig (the original giver of a “token of a token”), Mary (for reviving hope of devising a collaborative surprise) and our SkyPad host-in-absentia Gautam, who unwittingly set the timeline (and deadline) in motion. Oh, and everyone with whom NC has played a game, solved a puzzle, thrown a party or otherwise pulled something slightly crazy off slightly too late and with not nearly enough sleep.

Thanks to everyone for being part of our lives and part of our adventure!
